Sing Praise For Susan Anthony

Recommended Tune: Bethlehem CMC by Gottfried Wilhelm Fink (1842)
Alternate tune: Kingsfold

Sing praise for Susan Anthony
who countered wrongful laws.
She pressed for women's right to vote --
equality her cause.
Convinced that women were denied
the merit they deserve
she ran the course of justice well,
determined not to swerve.

Her choice to vote led to her trial
which led her to demand
the practice of democracy.
She held fast to her stand.
She dared to speak her mind with zeal.
Most men became incensed.
Yet she campaigned unceasingly
with little recompense.

Although she did not see the day
of final victory
the tribute paid to her at death
confirmed her legacy.
God, grant us courage and the will
to live what she believed.
May we, remembering her life,
be bold in word and deed.
