Offertory Prayers and Invitation for January 2016

Each month’s Offertory Prayers includes an “Invitation to the Offering” (see below) along with a digital image for those who might want to use it. We hope you will find this a helpful way to remind the people in your pews that their offering travels to many places to make a powerful difference in the lives of people they may never meet. You can find great stories of the difference our giving makes at http://umcgiving.org

Invitation to the Offering

Fusion

The offering you made last week empowered ministry within our congregation and in response to the needs of our community. It also helped support the work of ministries beyond the local church that empower the whole church to reach out to those who need to hear the good news of love and redemption. You’ve supported those who work hard to provide timely resources for local church leaders to increase the vitality of their congregations, to reach out to a new generation of disciples in mission and evangelism, to nurture new believers, and to plan passionate, meaningful worship. Through World Service funds allocated to Discipleship Ministries, your support provides these resources weekly by email and online, and also in gatherings such as FUSION, a churchwide training event that will happen next month in Raleigh, NC. This ministry happens thanks to the generous support of United Methodists like you. I invite you once again to give generously as we worship God through the sharing of our gifts, tithes and offering.

January 3, 2016 – Epiphany Sunday

Living God, your radiance shines in the beauty of creation. In Christ your Son, you have given the world eternal light that burns brightly in the midst of darkness. Like the magi, when you draw us near, we are overwhelmed with joy! Lead us by your Spirit to share your warmth and grace with our neighbors. Let our lives in this new year be an offering. We pray through Christ, the light of the world. Amen. (Matthew 2:1-12)

January 10, 2016 – First Sunday after the Epiphany/Baptism of the Lord

God, our heavenly Father, you welcome us as sons and daughters through baptism in Christ. Your Holy Spirit lives in our hearts and burns away what is not pleasing to you. Just as Jesus turned to you in prayer, help us to seek your will continually. May our offerings support the work of this church, lifting up your hope and new life in our community. We dedicate ourselves to serving you through your beloved Son, Jesus. Amen. (Luke 3:15-17, 21-22)

January 17, 2016 – Second Sunday after the Epiphany

O Lord our God, how precious is each person you created in your image! We could never give an accounting of the true worth of a human being. You alone know how highly you value every person, for the price of redeeming the world cost the life of your Son. Help us to be people who restore relationships. Use us and our offerings to fulfill the mission of your church. We pray in the name of Christ our king. Amen. (Isaiah 62:1-5)

January 24, 2016 – Third Sunday after the Epiphany

Gracious God, in wisdom you provide every gift needed to build up the church. You continually guide the church in every place by your Spirit, the Spirit of the risen Christ. During this week of prayer for Christian unity, help us to recognize each denomination as a genuine witness to the wholeness of Christ’s body. In gratitude, we offer our spiritual and financial gifts to support the ministry and mission of this congregation. Through Christ, we pray. Amen. (1 Corinthians 12:12-31a)

January 31, 2016 – Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany

O Lord our Savior, we praise you for your constant care. We are grateful that you have claimed us as your own, that we belong to you as part of your people. Thank you for drawing us to this congregation where we share in worship and study, friendship and service with others who love you. Let our lives be useful for your purposes. We gladly give our tithes and offerings as a sign of the joy you give us, to share with the world. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen. (Psalm 71:1-6)
